Have you tried setting the default playback and communication devices for your headset manually in windows Hairy_Eagle?

I had this, had to dissable all the sound devices. reinstall drivers and then reenable them. Then make sure when I launched the game that it didnt override my device default choice.

I didnt have the issue with GPU update however so cant comment on that.

Looks like the DDU program is for display drivers only. Ill be sure to use this when I replace my graphics card (hopefully soon)

If you're talking about right clicking on the sound icon in the task bar, then yes. Thats the only way I know how.
